Camping at Wabasso Campground Jasper National Park August 21- 23, 2015 For Jenn and Shawn's sixth wedding anniversary, we packed up the family and drove out to Jasper for a camping and hiking weekend. We set up camp at the Wabasso Campground on Highway 93A (Between the Edith Cavell Road and Athabasca Falls).
When we arrived on Friday night, there was snow down to about 1500m elevation - which is somewhat unusual for the middle of August! The temperature even got below freezing on Friday night, and when we got up for breakfast there was ice on the picnic table! However, both Saturday and Sunday turned out to be warm, clear days - perfect for hiking in the mountains!
We had a great time hanging out around camp. James was excited to sleep in the tent again, and he had a great time exploring the area around the campsite. We spent some time hiking and hanging out at a few areas around Jasper, and also spent some time in the townsite.
Saturday we hiked up part of the Watchtower Trail near Medicine Lake, where a huge forest fire burned much of the forest in June and July 2015 (

On Sunday we visited Athabasca Falls (
