Tryst Lake Hike
Spray Valley Provincial Park in Kananaskis Country
July 2, 2011
The hike to Trist Lake is about 3km one way, gaining about 300m of elevation. The first 1.5km is along an old road, which is relatively flat and offers only a few views along the cut line. Just before the drainage from Tryst Lake, there's an unofficial trail that heads right (west) from the road. A small rock cairn and some flagging marked the junction.
The trail heads west along the creek, crossing several times. With the late snowmelt in 2011, there was still up to 1.5m of snow in places along the route on July 2. The trail crosses at least one very large avalanche runout zone, so this wouldn't be my first choice to go in the winter.
Tryst Lake is a nice small scenic lake with a good view of The Fist off to the left. There was no visible outlet from the lake, although the creek carrying water down the valley was flowing quite nicely. Therefore, there must be an underground drainage from the lake.
