Usually people start the Rockwall trip from the Paint Pots parking lot, but the bridge over the Vermillion River had been washed out earlier in the year due to flooding from the heavy winter snowfall and spring rain. Therefore, we had to start at the next crossing of the Vermillion River, at Marble Canyon, about 2 kilometres further east than the Paint Pots.

Because we planned on ending our trip at the Floe Lake Trailhead, about 15 kilometres southwest along the highway, we dropped all of the gear and some of the people at the Marble Canyon parking lot, and then Adam drove his truck to the Floe Lake Trailhead. Shawn followed in his car and picked Adam up and drove back to near the Marble Canyon Parking lot. We were told to park about 500m west of the main parking lot at a small turnout, so we started the trip with a short walk back to our packs.
